“One-Blue” issues a call for essential patents for Blu-ray Disc™ products

(New York, USA – October 19, 2009) One-Blue, LLC, today issued a call for patents that are essential to the Blu-ray Disc™, DVD and/or CD Standards. One-Blue, LLC is an independent licensing company established as of October 9, 2009 to administer a one-stop-shop product license for patents essential to Blu-ray Disc™ products.

“Since Panasonic, Philips and Sony announced their plan to establish a one-stop-shop license for patents essential to Blu-ray Disc™ products on February 25, 2009, I have been facilitating discussions among essential patent holders. With the establishment of One-Blue, LLC, an open process for evaluating essential patents for Blu-ray Disc™ products is introduced.” said One-Blue, LLC Chief Executive Officer, Gerald Rosenthal.

The announcement of February 25, 2009, made clear that the simplified one-stop-shop product license will stimulate the growth of the market for Blu-ray Disc™ products and any holder of essential patents is invited to join the program as a licensor. All patent holders, whose patents are evaluated as essential to the Blu-ray Disc™ products, will be invited to this license development process.

All Patents that are believed to be essential to the implementation of the Blu-ray Disc™ Standard, DVD Standards and/or CD Standards are eligible to be submitted to the independent patent firm Proskauer, Rose LLP (1585 Broadway, New York, NY, 10036-8299, USA). Proskauer, Rose LLP will evaluate the submitted patents for essentiality to Blu-ray Disc™ products in the United States. Other firms will be used for the evaluation of patents outside the USA.

Patents that have been previously evaluated as essential patents by designated independent patent firms will be treated as essential patents under the licensing scheme administered by One-Blue LLC. Patent owners who have at least one patent that is evaluated as essential before November 1, 2009, will be invited to attend an initial meeting of essential patent holders, which will be held on November 6, 2009 in Japan. Patent submissions may also be made after November 1, 2009.
